Prof Ioannis Krikidis from the University of Cyprus recently spent time on secondment at VOLUE, Finland, as part of the COALESCE project. VOLUE is a leading supplier of technology offering software, insight and services that lead the European markets’ transition to robust and sustainable services critical for society. VOLUE’s focus on energy production services closely align with Prof Ioannis’ research activities and interests, which is why he chose VOLUE for this particular secondment.
“I had several very interesting discussions with the VOLUE team, during which we exchanged ideas for potential joint research proposals. During my stay in Helsinki, I also visited Aalto University, where I gave a talk on quantum communication systems and had fruitful interactions with colleagues working at the intersection of communications, energy, and emerging quantum technologies, “explained Prof Ioannis.
He added, “I received insightful feedback on current industrial activities in the energy storage domain, which can be exploited in my future research work as well as in the preparation of COALESCE deliverables.”
Overall, Prof Ioannis’ time at VOLUE provided him with a deeper understanding of how industrial stakeholders approach complex energy and communication challenges.
While in Finland, he also enjoyed immersing himself in Finnish daily life, walking through the city and interacting with locals on an exceptionally short winter day, with temperatures dropping to −25 °C, which truly highlighted how people adapt and thrive in such extreme conditions.
Going forward Prof Ioannis looks forward to continuing discussions offline to formulate a rigorous idea for upcoming research grant calls.
