Post-doctoral researcher Pedro Emílio Gória Silva from LUT University, Finland, recently spent time on secondment at CyRIC (Cyprus Research & Innovation Centre Ltd) as part of the COALESCE project.
During his time in Cyprus, Pedro collaborated with researchers from CyRIC and the University of Cyprus, including Junior Researcher Elio Faddoul, in developing a security and vulnerability analysis for wireless communication systems with fluid antennas. Together they took part in brainstorming sessions to identify open problems, explore possible solutions, and track the progress of their work.
“These collaborations allowed me not only to dive deeper into my core research areas but also to broaden my perspective by learning about IoT solutions, commercial applications, and interdisciplinary approaches to wireless communication and network security,” explained Pedro. “Next steps include formally developing vulnerability analysis so that we can evolve with the research.”
This secondment demonstrated to Pedro the value of interdisciplinary and cross-cultural collaboration in advancing research. On a personal note, Pedro also enjoyed exploring Cyprus’s coastal communities, trying traditional Cypriot food, which was a great way to experience the culture firsthand.
