Elio Faddoul from the University of Cyprus recently spent time on secondment at Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) in Finland to continue collaboration that initiated this past year within the COALESCE project.
During his time in Finland, Elio took part in discussions with PhD student Mohamed Selim Korium, working under the supervision of Professor Pedro Juliano Nardelli, discussing possible directions for extending their ongoing research. They also held introductory talks to integrate machine learning techniques within wireless communications.
Elio felt the exposure to other team members from different research areas and backgrounds was a great learning experience. The secondment also fostered strong links between the different groups which is positive for the COALESCE project.
“The opportunity to explore and learn about different cultures and work environments was very beneficial to me,” explained Elio. On a personal note he also enjoyed his time in Finland adding, “Being involved in a traditional Finnish sauna session was an entertaining activity to experience in the summer. Also, a visit to Suomenlinna, one of the historical military islands in Helsinki, was a nice opportunity to enjoy and learn about its unique history and culture.”
Elios looks forward to continuing collaboration with colleagues from LUT to publish scientific articles.
